Skawala Rubber Legs – The Early Season Stonefly Dry Fly Western Trout Live For
Before the runoff, before the crowds, and before most anglers are even thinking about dry flies — the Skawala hatch is happening. This large, dark stonefly emerges on western rivers as early as late February, and trout that have been locked down all winter come up aggressively to eat them. The Skawala Rubber Legs is built to match this hatch perfectly.
Why It Works
- Accurate Skawala profile imitates the large, dark stonefly that triggers some of the best early-season dry fly fishing of the year
- Rubber legs add lifelike movement and leg detail that trout key in on during the hatch
- Buoyant construction rides high on the surface through fast runs and pocket water without constant re-floatation
- Dark, natural coloration matches the brown and olive tones of the natural Skawala stonefly
When & Where to Fish It
The Skawala hatch typically runs from late February through April on classic western tailwaters and freestone rivers — the Bitterroot, Clark Fork, Deschutes, and similar systems. Fish it dead-drift through runs and riffles during warm afternoon windows when adults are most active on the water. An excellent searching pattern even outside the hatch window.
