RS2 Sparkle – PMD
The RS2 Sparkle - PMD is a precise surface film pattern built to imitate a Pale Morning Dun emerger — one of the most important and widely distributed mayfly hatches on western tailwaters and spring creeks. The RS2 (Rim's Semblance 2) is a legendary tailwater pattern developed by Rim Chung on the South Platte River in Colorado, and this PMD variation with a loop wing and tinsel tail adds a touch of sparkle that imitates the natural sheen of a PMD nymph breaking through the surface film. When trout are sipping PMDs in flat water and refusing everything else, this is the fly that cracks the code.
Pattern Details
- Style: PMD emerger / surface film pattern
- Wing: Loop wing — imitates the emerging wing of a PMD dun breaking through the film
- Tail: Tinsel tail for added sparkle and a realistic shuck imitation
- Color: PMD — pale yellow/olive tones that precisely match the Pale Morning Dun
- Best water: Tailwaters and spring creeks during PMD hatches — flat water, slow runs, and tailouts where selective fish are rising
- Techniques: Dead-drifted in the surface film during a PMD hatch, presented to rising fish with a precise, drag-free drift
- Sizes available: 18, 20
A tailwater essential for PMD season — when fish are locked onto pale morning dun emergers in the film and refusing standard dries, the RS2 Sparkle PMD is the fly that gets eaten.
