Matuka – Olive
Originating in New Zealand, the Matuka is one of the most distinctive and effective streamer designs in fly fishing. Unlike traditional streamer patterns where the wing can foul around the hook, the Matuka’s feather wing is bound directly to the hook shank — creating a tight, undulating profile that pulses with lifelike action on every strip and swing. The olive variation delivers a natural, earthy profile that closely imitates sculpin, small baitfish, and other bottom-dwelling prey that large trout actively hunt. Fished unweighted, it rides higher in the water column and can be worked through shallower runs, along banks, and over weed beds where a sinking pattern would hang up.
