Glo Bug

When trout turn their attention to drifting eggs, changing your food imitation can matter more than changing your favorite nymph's size. The Glo Bug gives you an egg-pattern option for those subsurface feeding situations, available in orange and chartreuse in size 12. Carry both colors to vary your presentation while staying with an egg imitation, whether you are working a familiar run or exploring a new stretch of river.

Start with a natural dead drift through current seams and softer feeding lanes. Adjust your indicator depth and rig weight so the fly reaches feeding fish without repeatedly dragging along the bottom. Cast upstream of the water you want to cover, mend to reduce drag, and follow the drift closely for subtle stops or changes in the indicator. Where two-fly rigs are permitted, pair it with a nymph to offer trout an egg and an insect imitation on the same pass.

Orange and chartreuse give you distinct color choices to compare as conditions change. Before switching flies, make sure your drift and depth are right; a well-managed presentation helps you judge whether a color change is actually making a difference. Around seasonal spawning activity, fish for feeding trout away from active redds and avoid wading through spawning beds.
